Yeah, I think Freeza and Raditz are the only ones who mention him.

The DBZ narrator also mentions him by name, lol.

I like to think that they can make an invisible energy sphere around themselves that holds in air. Very plausible, though never shown.

I do not think that is polausible at all. it is more plausible that they die immediately like humans and that the atmosphere is bigger around plant.

No, I think that, ultimately, they can just survive in space for increments of time.

Vegeta was going to blow up Earth when he was fighting Goku with his Galick Gun, including his pod/ship. He obviously wasn't going to commit suicide, so how was he going to live?

He was out of his mind with frsutration. he was not thinking. he would have killed himself if it killed goku 2.

Guys, they clearly have some amount of REAL TIME between when the earth blows up and when they escape.

Yeah, I was about to say.

Vegeta could've killed Goku with the Galick Gun, and left before the beam hit the core, and started to dismantle.

vegeta probably was talking about core-shooting the planet, like what frieza did to namek. he'd have several minutes to escape before the planet actually blew up.

planet vegeta had a very high gravity, so it probably had a big atmosphere. bardock wasn't actually in space.

dbz universe is weird. earth's moon has an atmosphere, for example.
list of canon sources:

the DB manga, and the Dr. Slump manga as it applies to the crossover during the rra saga.

list of non canon sources:

everything else, regardless of origin, format, or quality.

for those that blindly follow word of god
